    Question

I thought the J&S knock sensor was supposed to hear the knock before a person can! My J&S is removing timing, but I can still hear the knock. How good of a air/fuel ratio meter is the one on the dual monitor? Everyone's telling me that my fuel is lean ('cause it's knockin'), but the air/fuel meter say's it's rich (full throttle). Please gimme' some suggestions or good news...

Knocking is not "only" a problem caused by lean mixture but also timing advanced too far and/or overly hot temperatures. You can flood the chamber with gas but you'll still knock if you're got a heat issue or timing advance problem. I guess your friends guessed wrong.

The safeguard will take it out, but if it's really bad, you may still here it, at least at first, given the J&S is installed right.

How many degrees of timing is the J&S taking out? You might want to play with it, and set it at all cylinder mode instead of single cylinder mode, just to test.

I'd retard your timing a degree or two for starters.

It's ok to see the J&S light up now and then, 1 or two lights, but not all the time, and not tons of lights.

It's taking up to 8 degrees out, but my timing is set to 8BTDC. I'm sure about the installation, but the only place for the knock sensor is very low in the block, almost to the oil pan and directly under cylinder #1. Do you think it can't hear the further cylinders? Bigkat has his placed where the power steering bracket is, but I don't have a knock sensor adapter long enough to thread in. I've got the sensitivity set to max and have played with it a lot, but still has knock. Tom

You may have the sensetivity too high. Try moving it to around 10 oclock.
